Vertical Structure has welcomed a new team member with deep experience in managing the secure development of applications.
Lead information security consultant Keith Anderson previously worked at Veriteer, where he oversaw large-scale IT implementations for some of Europe’s largest retailers. “Security was paramount in installing systems. It was my job to always ensure vendors and suppliers were security complaint,” said Keith.
He has also previously overseen a global GDPR implementation. Specifically, Keith worked on the implementation of Privacy by Design for the development teams within a large German retailer that has a global presence.
Keith’s experience is a great complement to Vertical Structure’s consultation practice, and Keith will be helping companies become 27001 certified and helping them to understand how they comply with the requirements of GDPR.
“The big challenge right now is how Covid has changed everyone’s working patterns,” Keith said. “Long term, controls and protections for remote-working staff will need to be reviewed at almost every company.”
The disruption around the Covid crisis, lockdown, and remote working has meant some companies are behind the curve on business continuity. They are needing to implement new hybrid remote/on-site security procedures for email and web access. They need two-factor authentication and adequate knowledge of how to protect against ransomware (just one threat that might increase in this new remote-working world).
Keith’s experience in retail will also be invaluable at helping companies build resilience in their (now, disrupted) supply chains.
Keith explained, “Another message I would send to customers is this: don’t put off your security audit just because things are different right now. We are doing the majority of our audits remotely, via video conference, and we have creative ways of doing that. The accreditors are open and flexible to doing it remotely.”
Adding strength to its team with Keith’s hire, Vertical Structure is operating all of its certification programmes, training courses and consultation, with remote working and video conferencing procedures in place. The team is passionate about helping SMEs get secure.
