Events season is well underway, and there are some excellent learning opportunities to hear about cyber threats and protection against them.

Cyber expert Simon Whittaker of Vertical Structure will be presenting the following talks throughout this month:

Saturday, 8th June Northern Ireland Developer Conference

Location: Riddel Hall, Queen’s University Belfast

Topic: Compromising Amazon Web Services (AWS) for Fun and Profit

Detail: We will demonstrate the ease with which a malicious user can escalate privileges and own an AWS account. By showing our own vulnerable AWS account, Simon will demonstrate a number of tools and methods for testing, compromising and protecting your accounts.

Wednesday 12th June Arts & Business NI Cultural Governance Conference

Location: The Mac, Belfast

Topic: 10 Things Every Organisation Can Do to Protect Their Assets

Detail: It’s an unfortunate truth that charities aren’t immune to malicious attacks. Even if you’re curing cancer, it doesn’t mean that hackers won’t target you. In this breakout session, Simon will demonstrate how small businesses and charities can help protect themselves from cyber threat.

Tuesday 18th June Digital DNA

Location: St George’s Market, Belfast

Topic: Career Conversations with Women in Cyber Security

Detail: Simon will join a panel led by Elizabeth O’Sullivan from Allstate.

Wednesday 19th June RebelCon

Location: Clayton Hotel Cork City

Topic: Cloud application and infrastructure security workshop

Detail: This course provides delegates with a practical understanding of securing software deployed into cloud environments and serverless solutions. In this new world attackers have moved with the times, shifting focus more than ever on finding vulnerabilities in your applications and cloud implementations rather than vulnerabilities in your infrastructure.
