British Airways Data Breach

Written by: Vertical Structure on Nov 07, 2019

The cyber security market is awash with discussions of BA’s historic £183million for data breach that resulted in phishing on the personal data of half a million customers.

A contact of Vertical Structure, Barrister Orlagh Kelly, has written a fantastic document summing up the key takeaways of this legal case.

One of her points discusses how individual customers will be motivated to sue companies who inadequately protect their data. That’s on top of the huge fines the ICO promises (up to 4% of a company’s turnover).

The lesson is harsh but brief: keep data protected or face an enormous negative impact on your bottom line.
